KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: In a landmark verdict, the Court of First Instance (Criminal Division), presided over by Counselor Nayef Al-Dahoum, sentenced a member of Kuwait’s ruling family and an Asian accomplice to life imprisonment for cultivating ‘marijuana’ with the intent to trafficking, reports Al-Seyassah daily. According to case papers, personnel from the Directorate-General of Drugs Control department arrested a member of the ruling family who was growing marijuana in his home with the help of 3 Asians.
During the arrest, narcotics were found in the possession of the suspects. The Public Prosecution charged them with possessing 270 seedlings weighing approximately 25 kilograms of marijuana, 5,130 kilograms of ready-to-use marijuana, in addition to 4,150 pills.
The security authorities arrested the main suspect, a ruling family member, after discovering the marijuana cultivation facility at his residence. He was aided by three Asian workers, one of whom was also handed a life sentence. The court’s decision highlights Kuwait’s stringent stance on drug-related crimes, particularly when it involves members of the country’s elite. The ruling underscores the judiciary’s commitment to combating narcotics and upholding justice regardless of social or familial status.
