KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The "KhaleejiZain 26" has entered its final stages, with the semi-final matches kicking off this evening, following a month of artistic displays and football excitement since the tournament’s start on December 21.
In the first semi-final, Oman will face off against Saudi Arabia at 5:30 pm at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium in Sulaibikhat.Historically, Saudi Arabia has the upper hand over Oman in the Gulf Championship. The two teams have met 16 times, with Saudi Arabia winning 11 matches, Oman winning three, and two games ending in a draw.
Saudi head coach Hervé Renard expressed confidence, stating that reaching the semi-finals of KhaleejiZain 26 was an aspiration fulfilled. Speaking at a press conference y at the main media center at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Renard acknowledged the difficulty of facing Oman but emphasized that his players are fully prepared.
Renard also addressed the Saudi fans, thanking them for their unwavering support during the Iraq match and congratulating them on qualifying for the semi-finals. He highlighted the strong performance of Abdullah Al-Hamdan in the Iraq match, noting that defense remains a crucial focus. Renard also welcomed Marwan Al-Sahafi to the team, signaling his readiness for participation.
The French coach emphasized the importance of imposing the Saudi style of play and not allowing Oman to control the match. Renard is working towards a continuous improvement in the team's performance, to reach the Gulf 26 title to further elevate Saudi football.
Player Aoun Al-Saloli shared his optimism, confirming that the team is ready for the challenge ahead. He thanked the Saudi fans for their support and vowed that the team would give its best effort to secure a victory and reach the final.
Rashid Jaber, head coach of the Omani team, described today’s match as both important and challenging, as it is a semi-final encounter against a strong team with a rich history. In his press conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Jaber emphasized the need for complete focus from his players to secure a spot in the final.
Jaber expressed trust in the abilities of his players, including goalkeeper Fayez Al-Rashidi, but acknowledged the difficulty of missing key player Mohammed Al-Musalmi. Despite this, Jaber stressed that the team’s strength lies in collective effort, not relying on any single player. He expressed hope that Oman could reach the final, underlining that the ultimate goal was the title.
Jaber also noted that the match could go into extra time or penalties, and his team is prepared for all possibilities. He emphasized that focus and mental resilience would be key to success.
Regarding injuries, Jaber mentioned that Salah Al-Yahyaei and Amjad Al-Harthi are dealing with minor strains, making their participation uncertain.
Jaber explained that Oman’s style of play is both defensive and offensive, adaptable to the needs of each match. While acknowledging Saudi Arabia’s strength and talented players, Jaber stated that the Saudi fans' presence would not pressure his team, as they are accustomed to playing in front of large crowds.
