Saudi Arabia slashes traffic fines by 50% to encourage prompt payments.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, April 6: Saudi Arabia has announced a significant reduction in traffic fines, offering a 50% discount on accumulated fines incurred before April 18, 2024. The decision, enacted under the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to incentivize offenders to settle their fines promptly.

Implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the initiative grants violators a six-month window to settle their fines. They have the option to either pay all fines at once or settle each fine individually, provided they refrain from committing any safety-related offenses during this period.

However, Article 75 of the Traffic Law will be enforced for any violations occurring after the discount period. This article allows for a 25% reduction for a single violation but cautions against possible imprisonment and enforcement actions if fines remain unpaid beyond the objection period and legal payment deadline.

The Ministry emphasizes the importance of road users adhering to traffic laws to ensure public safety and minimize violations. This initiative not only aims to alleviate financial burdens on offenders but also underscores the government's commitment to promoting a culture of compliance with traffic regulations.
