Saudi Civil Defence issues thunderstorm advisory for Makkah, Riyadh, and more.

SAUDI ARABIA, May 20: The General Directorate of Civil Defence in Saudi Arabia has issued a stern warning concerning thunderstorms expected to affect various regions of the Kingdom until Wednesday.

Citizens are urged to exercise utmost caution and seek shelter in safe locations during this period. In the Makkah region, forecasts predict moderate to heavy rainfall, raising concerns of potential flash floods, hailstorms, and strong downward winds that may lead to dust and sandstorms.

Areas expected to be most affected include Taif, Meysan, Adham, Al Ardiyat, and Al Kamil. In addition, lighter to moderate rainfall is anticipated in Mecca and nearby localities such as Jumum, Bahrah, Rania, Khurma, and Moya.

The Riyadh region is also bracing for light to moderate rainfall, which could trigger flash floods and hailstorms. Strong winds stirring dust and sand are likely to affect areas including Afif, Dawadmi, Quwei’iyah, Majma’ah, Al Ghat, Shaqra, Az Zulfi, Thadiq, Murat, and Wadi Al Dawasir.

Furthermore, the regions of Jazan, Asir, and Al Baha are expected to experience moderate to heavy rains, with Jazan, Medina, Hail, and Qassim areas forecasted to receive light to moderate rainfall.

The Civil Defence has stressed the critical importance of taking precautionary measures during these adverse weather conditions to safeguard the well-being of all residents. Citizens are advised to steer clear of areas prone to flash flooding and waterlogged spots and refrain from swimming in them due to potential hazards.
