Saudi official praises Kuwaiti theater and audience
Chairman of the Saudi Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh announces details of 'Riyadh Season 2024.'

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 29: Advisor Turki Al-Sheikh, head of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, recently commended the Kuwaiti audience for its significant role in the region’s entertainment scene. In a special statement to Al-Rai following a press conference, Al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of the collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, highlighting the unique and enthusiastic participation of the Kuwaiti audience in theater events.

The statement came after Al-Sheikh announced the details of the fifth edition of “Riyadh Season 2024,” set to begin on October 12. This year’s season will feature 14 entertainment areas, 11 world championships, and 10 festivals and exhibitions.

Al-Sheikh expressed his appreciation for the Kuwaiti audience, saying, “May God bless the people of Kuwait. The Kuwaiti audience is crucial for us and holds great importance for Riyadh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We have many joint events, including plays, concerts, and sporting events. One significant event we are eager to organize is the honoring of the late great Kuwaiti artist Abdul Karim Abdul Qader. We had to postpone his tribute last season due to the health issues of the esteemed artist Abdullah Al-Ruwaished. We are now working to reschedule the concert as soon as possible.”

Regarding Kuwait’s involvement in the “Comedy Factory,” a Saudi initiative aimed at nurturing young talent in theater and comedy, Al-Sheikh confirmed that Kuwaiti plays would feature prominently. “I have agreed with artist Hassan Al-Ballam that Kuwaiti plays will be included not only in the Riyadh Season but also in national tours. This year, about 40 to 50 percent of our plays will be from Kuwait,” he noted.

Al-Sheikh also praised the success of Kuwaiti theater, highlighting its unprecedented achievements. “The Kuwaiti theater sometimes holds up to three shows a day with sold-out seats, which is a historical first. For instance, Al-Ballam's shows can have all seats filled even for the 1 a.m. performance,” he said.

During the press conference, broadcast on Al-Rai TV, Al-Sheikh acknowledged the collaboration with Al-Rai TV for Riyadh Season 2024, noting that there will be dedicated programs featuring Kuwait and other countries.
