TEHRAN, October 26: Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is leading a Saudi delegation to Tehran for high-level discussions with Iranian officials, as regional powers seek to reduce tensions and promote diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crisis.

The talks are expected to bring together Prince Khalid, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin, representing the three countries that signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

According to Iranian officials, the visiting representatives are scheduled to hold consultations with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Mohsen Rezaei and meet President Masoud Pezeshkian. The discussions are expected to focus on regional security and coordination amid growing tensions across the Middle East.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts by the three members of the Makkah Alliance for Defence — Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye — to ease tensions between the parties involved in the current crisis. Saudi officials have said the initiative aims to encourage dialogue, pursue diplomatic solutions and support mediation efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan.

The meetings also highlight the alliance’s efforts to contribute to regional security and stability through engagement with other countries in the region. The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan in August 2026 to strengthen defence cooperation and collective security.

The Tehran discussions come amid heightened regional tensions and continuing concerns over the possibility of renewed conflict. The participating countries are seeking to use diplomatic channels to prevent further escalation and support efforts toward a more stable regional security environment.
