RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 15: Residents in Sharurah Governorate, located in southern Saudi Arabia, have begun receiving financial compensation for electricity disruptions that occurred over the weekend, according to reports from local media on Monday.
Okaz, a Saudi newspaper, detailed that affected residents received notifications via text message confirming their receipt of compensation from the Saudi Electricity Company. The messages included apologies for the outage on Friday, corresponding to July 12, 2024, during which subscribers were compensated with two thousand riyals, approximately 533 US dollars.
This compensation will be credited directly to each subscriber's account with the electricity provider. The incident highlights the challenges faced in Saudi Arabia during the summer months, where high temperatures necessitate heavy use of air conditioning in households.
