Scientific Center releases raptors and reptiles in Jahra Reserve
Rehabilitated raptors and reptiles released in Jahra Reserve through a partnership of the Scientific Center, EPA, and Kuwait University

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 4: The Scientific Center, a division of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), released a number of rehabilitated raptors and reptiles into the Jahra Nature Reserve on Wednesday. The initiative, carried out in cooperation with the Environment Public Authority (EPA), aims to restore ecological balance and preserve biodiversity in Kuwait.

Deputy Director General of the Scientific Center, Mohammad Al-Sanousi, told KUNA that the released species included various birds of prey and reptiles that had been carefully rehabilitated to ensure their safe return to their natural habitat.

“This release is part of longstanding cooperation between the Scientific Center, the Environment Public Authority (EPA), and KFAS. The collaboration focuses on environmental protection and enhancing biodiversity in the country,” Al-Sanousi stated.

He emphasized the center’s commitment to studying, treating, and rehabilitating wildlife as part of its broader mission to raise environmental awareness in Kuwaiti society and promote the sustainability of natural resources.

Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs at the Environment Public Authority, Dr. Abdullah Al-Zaidan, highlighted the significance of the partnership with the Scientific Center. He noted that the initiative aligns with Kuwait's commitments to international agreements, including the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Al-Zaidan added that many of the released species were threatened with extinction due to overhunting and injuries sustained during migration. He stressed that preserving biodiversity is a shared societal responsibility and expressed gratitude to the Scientific Center for its ongoing efforts in environmental protection.
