‘Nine sites being monitored’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 20: The Directorate General of Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Interior Ministry stated the security authorities are looking for those involved in bye-elections or the so-called primaries to choose a candidate to contest the parliamentary elections, reports Al- Anba daily.

The ministry said the security services are keeping an eye on 9 sites where by-elections are expected to be held in violation of Article 5/45 of Law No. 35 of 1962 of the National Assembly elections and its amendments, which stipulates that ‘anyone who organizes or participates in the organization of by-elections shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years, and a fine of not less than 2,000 dinars and not more than 5,000 dinars or one of these two penalties. The bye-elections are conducted informally before the parliamentary elections to select one or more candidates to represent a certain class, sect or tribe to contest the elections.
