Technical Issues In 'Sahel' And Health Ministry Systems Spark Cybersecurity Concerns

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: A few days ago, the Ministry of Health announced that one of its systems experienced a technical glitch, prompting the activation of protection measures and a transition to manual transactions. Just as this issue persisted, the unified government application for electronic services, "Sahel," faced an emergency technical glitch yesterday, leaving users struggling to access the app and utilize its services.

While the Ministry of Health’s services continue to be affected by the malfunction, it is not the first such incident. In September of last year, the Ministry of Finance reported a viral hacking attempt on one of its systems, leading to the activation of security protocols and system decoupling. Shortly after, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry also experienced a hacking attempt. With the rise in reports of "technical glitches," concerns are growing over whether these issues are linked, whether they result from external interference or are purely technical in nature, and whether state agencies are fully prepared to handle such incidents and safeguard their systems from breaches.

"Sahel" spokesperson Yousef Kazem told KUNA that technical teams are working to resolve the issue and restore full functionality to the app as soon as possible. He advised users to begin by updating their digital civil card data through the "My Identity" app before reopening "Sahel" and entering their civil number to authenticate access.
