KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: The ministries of Interior, Commerce and Information; in addition to the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and Kuwait Municipality, recently carried out an extensive inspection campaign in Salmiya, including hotels and hotel apartments that did not obtain permits to engage in certain activities, reports Al- Jarida daily.

Deputy Director of the Employment Protection Sector at PAM Dr Fahd Murad told the daily that this inspection campaign was aimed at regulating the market and controlling marginal workers who violated the Residency and Labor laws, such as those working for employers other than their sponsors. Murad disclosed the campaign resulted in the arrest of several men and women working in unlicensed hotels and for employers other than their sponsors.

He affirmed the necessary legal action will be taken soon; such that the files of business owners and companies where these workers are registered will be suspended, while the erring workers will be referred to the Ministry of Interior. He stressed that PAM is keen on intensifying its efforts to regulate the local labor market and eliminate marginal workers; urging business owners, companies and individuals to strictly comply with the regulations to avoid legal problems.
