KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Athletes Abdullah Shaaban and Ali Al-Zankawi are vying for the presidency of the Sports Committee in elections held last Thursday. The committee is comprised of seven members, including a chairman, vice-chairman, committee rapporteur, and four additional members.
The elections took place at the Kuwait Olympic Committee headquarters, resulting in Suad Al-Faqan securing first place with 407 votes. Madawi Al-Shammari followed closely in second with 398 votes, while Sarah Al-Hawal garnered 354 votes for third place. Abdullah Shaaban finished fourth with 300 votes, Abdullah Al-Khamis was fifth with 290 votes, Ali Al-Zankawi came in sixth with 284 votes, and Ibrahim Al-Dhafiri rounded out the results in seventh with 283 votes.
The newly elected committee will convene in the coming days for a coordination meeting to assign positions, as both Shaaban and Al-Zankawi compete for the presidency.
According to the committee's regulations, the elected president will automatically secure a seat on the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Olympic Committee and will have voting rights. Should the president be absent, the vice chairman will step in. Additionally, one male and one female athlete from the Sports Committee will be nominated to serve as members of the General Assembly of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, granting them the same rights to attend meetings and vote as representatives from other sports federations.
