KUWAIT CITY, June 24: For the second consecutive day, the Asian Fencing Championships for men and women, hosted by Kuwait, continued at Hall No. 4 at the International Fairgrounds in the Mishrif area. The event will run until next Thursday, featuring 350 male and female fencers from 36 countries.
On the second day of the competition, Hang Ho Wai from the Hong Kong national team clinched the gold medal in the men's épée competition. His compatriot Ng Ho Tin took silver, while Japan's Kumata Akira and Kazakhstan's Sertay Yerlik shared the bronze.
In the women's events, South Korea's Hong Sina won the gold medal in the foil competition. Japan's Kikuchi Komaki secured the silver medal, and the bronze medals were awarded to China's Wang Yuting and Japan's Ueno Yuka.
Sheikh Salem Al-Qasimi, President of the Asian and Arab Fencing Federations, praised the organization of the tournament and expressed confidence in the Kuwaiti Federation’s strategy for hosting such a significant event. He noted the high level of competition and hoped for even greater excitement in the remaining days of the tournament. Al-Qasimi highlighted that Kuwait's successful hosting of this major continental event sets a precedent for other federations to follow, paving the way for future achievements.
He added, "Fencing is becoming increasingly popular in Asia and is garnering significant attention, similar to its global presence. Asian fencers are now a formidable presence in Olympic competitions. As an Asian federation, we aim to achieve even more success, particularly in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024."
The Board of Directors of the Kuwait Fencing Federation held a ceremony at the Abdul Hussein Marafi Hall in the Radisson Blu Hotel to honor Sheikh Salem Al-Qasimi, President of the Asian and Arab Fencing Federations. The tournament referees, technical and administrative committees, and volunteers were also recognized for their contributions. The ceremony concluded with a dinner party in honor of the attendees.
