KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: National swimming team athlete Mohammed Zubaid set a new Kuwaiti record after completing the 50-meter backstroke in 25.06 seconds at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, thereby breaking the previous record held by Ali Al-Zamel.
According to a press release issued by the Kuwait Water Sports Federation, Zubaid also set a new Kuwaiti record in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing in 55.18 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 55.71 seconds set by Abdullah Al-Thuwaini.
The President of the Kuwait Water Sports Federation Sheikh Khaled Al-Bader Al-Sabah expressed his delight with Zubaid's outstanding performance in Budapest, highlighting the swimmer's success in achieving new records for Kuwait.
He affirmed that Zubaid is one of the promising, talented swimmers with strong determination and a commitment to achieving success that will be recorded in Kuwait's name.
Sheikh Khaled said the federation's Board of Directors is keen on providing all necessary support and overcoming any obstacles facing water sports by working closely with the relevant authorities.
He expressed hope that the coming period will bring more support to expand the reach of water sports and achieve greater accomplishments at the continental and international levels.
Sheikh Khaled said this initiative aligns with the guidance of the wise political leadership, which stresses the importance of continued work and dedication to realizing the dreams and aspirations of young athletes, supporting them, and providing all necessary resources for their success.
Sheikh Khaled praised the excellent cooperation and coordination between the Kuwait Water Games Federation and the swimmers' families, thanking them for their ongoing moral support, which has played a major role in achieving the athletes' ambitions and securing remarkable accomplishments for Kuwait.
