Briefing about the biography of the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on him, underestimates this man, and elaboration makes the journalistic talent lose its brightness, so it is difficult for someone like me, in writing this article, to mention his merits, as he is the sixth son of the tenth ruler of Kuwait, the late Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on him.
The late Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on him, held several positions before coming to power on September 29, 2020, whereas the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, may he have mercy on him, appointed him on February 21, 1961, as Governor of Hawalli, and then as Minister of Interior on March 19, 1978. He continued until January 26, 1988, and then as Minister of Defense.
Then he was appointed Minister of Social Affairs on January 20, 1991 after the liberation, and he remained in ministerial positions until the Amiri order was issued on February 7, 2006 recommending him as Crown Prince by the text of Article Four of the Constitution and Law No. 4 of 1964 regarding the succession of the emirate. The National Assembly then held a special session.
It includes the Amiri order recommending him as Crown Prince, where the members of the National Assembly unanimously pledged allegiance to him as Crown Prince and he took the constitutional oath. Until he was called to be the Amir of the country on September 29, 2020, his reign was characterized by relative calm. He began his reign with a meeting with politicians and they presented to him a petition that represented the beginning of popular demands. He prevented interference in the elections with political money, as well as preventing the government from voting in forming the office of the National Assembly, and he began to reform what could be reformed, so he pardoned prisoners of opinion and displaced people from all sectors of society. He concluded it before his death in the last amnesty that was issued on 27 November 2023.
Therefore, he was named the Prince of Amnesty for demonstrating national reconciliation during his reign. The late Prince loved the people of Kuwait with their appreciation and social contact in their joys and sorrows, so they exchanged love for him with love and humility, so God raised him in their hearts. That was the reaction that occurred since his admission to the hospital until the news of his death, and they prayed for mercy and forgiveness for him?. It is a hidden merit between him and God. If a person contemplates it, he will not live for any moment. He will be under the soil, so he will plant good deeds and reconcile with himself and his people, especially if he holds a responsibility because he will be asked about it on the day when neither wealth nor children will benefit, except those who come to God with a sound heart. The late prince left behind a less divided society due to his ability to settle disputes within the political arena. He also sought to restore political stability to Kuwait, and the features of his rule were characterized by making efforts to resolve long-term political disputes. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad has gone, but his stances and memory remain in the hearts of all the people of Kuwait, and we can only extend our sincere condolences from the honorable Al-Sabah family in this regard and say nothing but what pleases the Lord: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return,” and we are saddened by your loss.
