Singer-songwriter Jewel.

LOS ANGELES, Nov 11, (Agencies): Jewel is on a mission to bring solace to those experiencing loneliness during the holiday season. The renowned "You Were Meant for Me" singer has been a dedicated advocate for mental health awareness for nearly two decades, channeling her efforts through the Never Broken Foundation. This foundation focuses on supporting homeless and at-risk youth in enhancing their emotional and psychological well-being.

In her latest initiative, Jewel has launched the second annual Not Alone Challenge, aimed at not only reminding individuals that they are not isolated but also providing them with valuable tools to navigate life challenges. Last year, her endeavors marked the "largest mental health challenge in history," reaching nearly one and a half billion people.

Reflecting on the importance of the Not Alone Challenge, Jewel emphasized the prevalence of "mental health deserts" where people lack access to therapy. The challenge not only raises awareness but also equips individuals with free tools and resources available on the foundation's website.

Jewel, now 49, has been candid about her challenging teenage years. At 15, she delved into mental health, moving out of her abusive family home to live alone in a cabin in Alaska. Later, while in California, she experienced homelessness, living in her car.

Recalling her hesitations about signing a record contract in 2022, she acknowledged the potential pitfalls of fame given her emotional background. Aware of the industry's toll on mental health, with its struggles with addiction, overdose, and mental breakdowns, she made a pact with herself. She committed to signing the contract on the condition that her primary focus remained on learning how to be a happy and whole human being.

Jewel emphasized the universality of misery and its indifference to factors like wealth or social status. However, she underscored the need for access to resources not universally available for those seeking a different way of being.
