The smart mechanism in a traffic surveillance camera captures the plate number of the vehicle and records a serious violation if a motorist speeds up when passing by such a camera. Sources warned drivers against manipulative acts whenever they are near such a camera, as it records violations through the Control Unit. GTD has confirmed that some cameras calculate the speed from point to point; hence, the a need to maintain the specified speed after passing by the cameras to prevent the recording of a traffic violation based on the percentage of exceeding the specified speed. It called on drivers to adhere to traffic regulations to protect lives, as increasing speed means increasing the risk.

Sources stated the camera detects an increase in speed after a vehicle passes near it and this is recorded as a serious violation, indicating that about KD5 million are collected monthly due to traffic violations as the cameras detect 100 traffic violations every hour. The cameras capture the plate numbers of speeding vehicles through a smart mechanism linked with the Control Unit; through which violating vehicles are tracked, so there is a suitable opportunity to capture the plate number accurately. Traffic statistics revealed that about 4.2 million traffic violations have been recorded since the installation of several mobile surveillance cameras and about 400 fixed surveillance cameras.
