NEW YORK, Jan 4: A passenger's behavior on a United Airlines flight has sparked outrage after he allegedly urinated on another passenger during the journey.
Jerome Gutierrez, traveling in business class on UA Flight 189 from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Manila, Philippines, was the victim of the incident on December 27. According to his stepdaughter, Nicole Cornell, about four hours into the flight, a man stood up from his seat and began urinating on Gutierrez, who was asleep and strapped into his seat.
“He was surprised when he woke up, thinking he was dreaming, but quickly realized he was soaked in urine from his stomach down to his feet,” Cornell told SFGATE.
Despite the shocking experience, Gutierrez remained seated in his wet clothes for the remaining eight hours of the flight. United Airlines flight attendants advised him not to approach the man, fearing a confrontation and potential violence, according to Cornell. She expressed her frustration with how the situation was handled, saying, “They put the airline's needs before my stepdad's health. This is a biohazard, and the plane should have turned around to address the issue.”
Cornell also mentioned that the man who urinated on Gutierrez apologized and begged him not to press charges.
A United Airlines spokesperson confirmed the disturbance, stating that the airline had involved local authorities upon arrival in Manila. "On December 28, we asked police to meet our flight when it arrived in Manila to address a passenger disturbance. We have banned this passenger," the spokesperson said.
