Special Olympics MATP training kicks off in Kuwait with international experts

 KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: The regional training course for the Special Olympics Motor Activities Program (MATP) will commence tomorrow in Kuwait, hosted by Special Olympics Kuwait and overseen by Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa region. The course will welcome coaches from GCC and Arab countries.

The training will feature lectures from Dr. Niamh Morton, Director of the Motor Activities Program at Special Olympics International; Dr. Eleni Rossidis, Technical Advisor for the Motor Activities Program at Special Olympics International; and regional experts including Dr. Emad Mohi El-Din, Head of the Sports and Training Sector; Dr. Sherif El-Foly, Head of the Games and Competitions Sector; and Noha Jaballah, Director of the Players Leaders and Activities Program.

Spanning three days, the course will cover both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical sessions will be held at the Costa del Sol Hotel, which will also host the opening and closing ceremonies. Practical training will occur at the Youth Sports Club swimming pool in the Ahmadi area. At the same time, player medical examinations will be conducted at the Association for the Care of the Disabled in Sabahiya.

Rehab Bursali, National Director of Special Olympics Kuwait, stated that hosting this international training course aligns with the organization’s commitment to staying updated with the latest training techniques and enhancing the skills of coaches. This initiative aims to advance the sports and movement opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
