Speed thrills, but Kuwait’s new law will stop you in your tracks

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: The General Traffic Department has announced that it has begun implementing procedures to summon drivers caught by traffic cameras for exceeding the specified speed limits, as part of preparations to take strict legal action against them. These procedures include impounding their vehicles for 60 day. The department clarified that this measure is part of its efforts to enhance traffic control and reduce dangerous behaviors that endanger road users’ safety. It reaffirmed its commitment to strictly enforcing the law to protect lives and property. It is worth mentioning that, starting April 22, 2025, those who exceed the speed limit will face a prison sentence ranging from one to three years or a fine between KD 600 and KD 1,000, and will be referred to court. Reconciliation fines will range from KD 70 to KD 150, depending on how much the driver’s speed exceeds the specified limit for the road.
