KUWAIT CITY, March 6: Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of following preventive guidelines during rainy weather, noting that while the changing climate can be beautiful, it also presents health challenges, particularly for vulnerable groups such as those with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and children.
In an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, Al-Sanad highlighted the risks associated with driving in rainy conditions, stressing that rain reduces tire grip on the road, increasing the likelihood of accidents. He advised drivers to exercise heightened caution, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles to avoid collisions and ensure road safety.
Al-Sanad also cautioned against direct exposure to cold, humid air, especially for asthma and allergy sufferers. Such exposure can worsen respiratory symptoms due to the presence of airborne allergens. He referenced scientific studies that show high humidity can trigger bronchial spasms in asthma patients. As a result, he recommended that individuals with asthma carry their inhalers and adhere to their prescribed treatment plans. Additionally, he advised closing windows in homes and vehicles to reduce exposure to harmful air irritants carried by rain.
The spokesperson also warned against the risk of electrical hazards during rainy weather, as water can cause electrical short circuits. He stressed the importance of avoiding contact with electrical wires and sockets when hands are wet and ensuring that water does not enter electrical appliances. These simple preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of household accidents during rain.
Al-Sanad reiterated the significance of following weather bulletins and adhering to instructions from official authorities, whether related to traffic or preventive measures at home, in order to ensure public safety. He also urged individuals to seek medical help immediately if they experience unusual health symptoms, as timely medical intervention is crucial.
The Ministry of Health continues to raise awareness about these preventive measures to protect public health and safety. Al-Sanad called on the public to enjoy the winter weather responsibly while taking necessary precautions to minimize potential health risks.
