Stricter Fines for Mobile Phone Use While Driving

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: Starting April 22, 2025, Kuwait will implement stringent new penalties for drivers caught using mobile phones or any handheld devices while driving, as part of efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents. The General Traffic Department has announced that using a phone or being distracted by any handheld device while driving will result in a fine of KD 75.

In more severe cases, if the violation is referred to court, offenders could face imprisonment for up to three months, a fine ranging between KD 150 and KD 300, or both penalties. The new measures aim to curb distracted driving, which is a leading cause of accidents globally.

Authorities emphasized that using mobile phones or other devices diverts a driver’s attention from the road, significantly increasing the risk of collisions. The stricter penalties are designed to deter such behavior and promote safer driving practices.

The General Traffic Department urged all drivers to adhere to traffic laws and prioritize safety by avoiding distractions while behind the wheel. The new regulations are part of Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents. Motorists are advised to use hands-free devices if necessary and to pull over safely if they need to use their phones. The department also reminded the public that these measures are in place to protect lives and ensure the safety of all road users. For further updates on traffic regulations, drivers are encouraged to follow official announcements from the General Traffic Department.
