In Iowa, a 17-year-old student unleashed gunfire at his high school, resulting in the tragic death of a sixth-grade classmate and injuries to four fellow students and a school employee, as reported by state authorities in the American Midwest. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation's Assistant Chief, Mitch Mortvedt, revealed that the deceased individual, aged between 11 and 12, was not enrolled in the high school but likely present for a breakfast program.

Mortvedt clarified that the four wounded students and the injured employee were not in life-threatening conditions. The shooter, identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, a high school student, was armed with a pistol and a hunting rifle. Authorities discovered him with a "self-inflicted wound," a term typically used for describing suicide cases, although confirmation of his status was pending.

In addition to the shooting, security forces found and dismantled a homemade explosive device within the school premises. The incident unfolded at Perry High School before the commencement of classes, prompting a swift response from law enforcement, ambulances, and security personnel.

Perry, a small town approximately 60 kilometers from Des Moines, witnessed the tragedy. Mortvedt mentioned that Butler had posted on social media around the time of the shooting, though the specific content of the posts was not disclosed. (Agencies)
