NAIROBI, Kenya, July 15: Kenyan police have revealed that the prime suspect arrested in connection with the gruesome discovery of mutilated female bodies in a Nairobi rubbish dump has confessed to killing 42 women. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Mohamed Amin, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, disclosed chilling details of the case.
"We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life," Amin stated, following the suspect's confession. He also announced the arrest of a second suspect found in possession of a handset belonging to one of the victims.
Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja reported that the 33-year-old prime suspect was apprehended around 3 am local time near a bar, in a joint operation involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Police Service. Nine bodies have been recovered from the dumpsite, with autopsies scheduled for Monday.
Footage circulating on social media showed police displaying several pieces of evidence allegedly linked to the suspect, underscoring the gravity of the investigation.
The discovery of mutilated bodies, wrapped in plastic bags, from the Mukuru slums has sent shockwaves across the country since Friday. Initially believed to be nine victims, all women, tensions escalated over the weekend at the crime scene, with police dispersing agitated residents using tear gas.
These developments have intensified scrutiny on the Kenyan police force and added pressure on President William Ruto, already grappling with widespread protests against government tax hikes amidst a severe cost of living crisis.
