Syrian Fraudulently Becomes Kuwaiti at 10, Rises to High-Ranking Officer

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: A high-profile forgery case described as “the biggest breach faced by a sensitive institution” has resurfaced following new legal directives, according to a security source. The case involves a high-ranking official in a security institution who allegedly obtained Kuwaiti citizenship through fraud and facilitated the recruitment of his sons and others into critical positions.

The investigation revealed that the accused, originally of Syrian nationality, was fraudulently added to the file of a Kuwaiti citizen at the age of 10. His father, a Syrian who later acquired Saudi citizenship and other family members have also been implicated. Despite earlier investigations by the Nationality Investigations Department in 2016, political pressures prevented action.

Further inquiries confirmed that the officer’s brother, who resides in Kuwait, shares the same father. DNA evidence and matching residential records solidified the case. The officer had used his authority to recruit three sons into the same security institution, granting them sensitive leadership roles.

The Supreme Committee has reviewed the case in full and decided to take legal action, including the withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from the retired officer, his sons, and 20 other individuals affiliated with him. The move underscores Kuwait's commitment to upholding the integrity of its citizenship process and taking decisive action against fraud.
