Syrian Siblings Nabbed in Stunning Kuwaiti Citizenship Fraud Scandal

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 15: The Nationality Investigations Department has uncovered shocking cases of tampering with Kuwaiti citizenship records, revealing stories that seem almost unbelievable. Investigations led to the discovery of two Syrian brothers, one employed by the Criminal Investigation Department and the other by Kuwait Municipality, who had obtained Kuwaiti citizenship through fraudulent means by affiliating themselves with a Kuwaiti citizen. Both individuals were arrested and confessed to being Syrian, stating that their father, residing outside Kuwait, had secured Kuwaiti citizenship for them in 2003 by paying 15,000 dinars each.

Further investigations revealed they had a third brother, who was also naturalized under another Kuwaiti citizen’s name. This brother, who holds Syrian citizenship, admitted that he had obtained Kuwaiti nationality at the age of seven. When he reached adulthood and began working, his father demanded money from him. After refusing, the father traveled to Saudi Arabia, obtained a falsified death certificate for his son from a car accident, and submitted it to Kuwaiti authorities, making his son legally "deceased." The son was forced to obtain a Syrian passport and residency permit in Kuwait. Upon arrest, fingerprint checks confirmed the truth of his story, as both his Kuwaiti and Syrian fingerprints were on record.

The two brothers were referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of forging nationality, while the third brother was deported. While the father involved in this case is outside of Kuwait.
