Talks with Chinese delegation focus on speeding up major development projects: Minister

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 1: On Sunday, Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan emphasized that the visit of the Chinese government delegation to Kuwait underscores the importance of advancing the agreements and projects signed with China. These projects are expected to significantly impact the country's development. Dr. Al-Mashaan made this statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after meeting with the Chinese delegation at her office at Shuwaikh Port. The meeting was attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Hayat, Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Janwei, senior officials from the Ministries of Public Works and Foreign Affairs, and experts in ports and municipal engineering.

Dr. Al-Mashaan noted that seven agreements have been signed with China concerning development cooperation on major projects. Among these, the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project is a key focus. She reported that the first phase of the port’s construction is approximately 50% complete, and there is a strong commitment to finishing this phase promptly. The goal is to begin work on the second and third phases to ensure the port operates at full capacity as soon as possible.

The Minister highlighted the reliability of Chinese companies and institutions in delivering the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project. She praised China’s expertise in construction, port management, and operations. Following their discussions, the next steps will involve detailed planning and setting implementation timelines.

Dr. Al-Mashaan expressed her satisfaction with the progress of the joint talks and the ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations between Kuwait and China, as well as exploring further development opportunities. (KUNA)
