LONDON, Oct 11: An outbound tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off Oman coast on Saturday, causing a fire onboard, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
In its warning numbered 162-26, UKMTO said it received a report of the incident at 1920 UTC on Oct 10. The vessel’s master reported that the tanker had been hit on its port side, triggering a fire onboard.
All crew members were reported safe, while the extent of the damage and the potential environmental impact remained unknown at the time of the report.
UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the organization as authorities investigate the incident.
The report did not identify the projectile’s origin or provide details about those responsible for the attack.
