Tanker struck by unknown projectile in Strait of Hormuz, two crew injured

LONDON, Sept 21: A tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile on Monday, injuring two crew members, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

UKMTO said it received a report of the incident at 0730 UTC after military authorities informed it that the tanker was conducting an inbound transit through the strategic waterway when it was hit.

The two crew members sustained minor injuries, while the vessel was reported to be continuing to its next port of call under its own power.

There was no reported environmental impact from the incident, UKMTO said.

Authorities are investigating the attack.

UKMTO advised vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the maritime security organization.
