LOS ANGELES, Oct 28: Taylor Swift fans have praised the pop star for her handling of a stage malfunction during one of her sold-out Eras shows. The “Fortnight” singer was performing “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday (28 October). Typically, she sings from a reflective silver platform that moves down the catwalk.
However, the platform, affectionately dubbed the “Tayoomba” by fans, seemed to malfunction during the performance. Without showing any signs of concern, Swift stepped off the platform and danced down the catwalk, with her backup dancers following her lead. The “Tayoomba” was then pushed off the stage and not used for her next song, “Down Bad,” also from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Fans applauded Swift and her dancers for their response to the situation, with some suggesting that the performance was “almost better this way” due to her impressive improvisation. One fan commented, “The way she handled that, I wouldn’t mind if it breaks again,” while another remarked, “Taylor Swift is such a seasoned professional.”
One fan shared on Instagram, “Last-minute issues solved like real pros!” Another added, “Her stage stopped working, and she got off the platform and worked that stage anyway! Not a beat was missed; this is amazing!”
Swift's Eras tour will continue in Indianapolis for three nights at the Lucas Oil Stadium, marking the conclusion of the US leg. The tour will then head to Canada, where she will perform six nights at the Rogers Centre in Toronto and three shows at BC Place in Vancouver. Singer Gracie Abrams will support her during all remaining shows.
As she wrapped up her New Orleans concert with her 2022 single “Karma,” Swift gave a shout-out to her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, singing, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.” She altered the original lyrics after beginning her relationship with Kelce; the song was initially written with a reference to her ex-boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn.
Earlier this month, Swift announced a collaboration with US department store Target for a book that will feature never-before-seen photos from the Eras tour, including rehearsal shots and her reflections. The 239-page book is set to be published on 29 November and is described by Swift as the “official retrospective” of her concert series, which she called “the most wondrous tour of my life.”
