LOS ANGELES, Nov 23, (Agencies): Officials in Rio de Janeiro are launching an inquiry into the events company responsible for organizing Taylor Swift's concerts in Brazil. This development follows the tragic death of 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado, a devoted fan of the artist, who passed away before Swift's scheduled performance at Estádio Nilton Santos last Friday.

The Consumer Delegations Department of the Civil Police in Rio de Janeiro is conducting an investigation into Time for Fun, focusing on the alleged "crime of danger to life or health" linked to the company's actions. Organizers of the event are expected to be summoned for testimony, and authorities are taking additional measures to delve into the circumstances.

The investigation aims to scrutinize various aspects, including the venue's structure and the availability of water, as fans had reported concerns. On the day of Benevides Machado's tragic incident, temperatures soared to 102 F, prompting Swift to cancel the Saturday performance due to the extreme heatwave in Rio.

The concert was rescheduled for Monday, with Swift emphasizing in a statement, "the safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and will always come first." Although the cause of Benevides Machado's death remains undisclosed, Time For Fun revealed on social media, in Portuguese, that the concertgoer had felt unwell at the venue, received assistance from first responders, and was later transferred to Salgado Filho Hospital, where she passed away.

Weiny Machado, the bereaved father, is seeking clarification on whether fans were prohibited from bringing water to the show, citing fan-captured videos showing Swift interrupting the concert to request water for attendees. In an emotional statement, he expressed his profound grief over the loss of his daughter, who was a promising psychology graduate, set to complete her studies in April.

Time for Fun had earlier announced on social media, before the Saturday show's postponement, that water stations would be provided at the stadium. Swift, sharing the news of Benevides Machado's passing on her Instagram Story, expressed being "overwhelmed by grief" and conveyed her condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, acknowledging that this was not something she anticipated when bringing the tour to Brazil.
