Technical Services Sector advances Kuwait's Vision 2035 with new clean energy projects and digital innovations
MEW's Technical Services and Main Workshops Sector is a key provider of maintenance and support across the ministry.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: The Technical Services and Main Workshops Sector at the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is a crucial division that provides extensive services and technical support across the ministry. This sector manages various maintenance tasks for the ministry’s facilities and installations, driven by national staff who are dedicated to enhancing productivity and performance within a distinguished work environment.

Assistant Undersecretary Eng. Aqoul Al-Enezi spoke to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Monday, highlighting the sector’s role in aligning with Kuwait’s Vision for 2035 and the ministry’s objectives. He noted that the sector’s work is integral to improving the business environment and achieving the ministry’s goals.

Al-Enezi detailed the sector’s contributions, including updating unified standards for low-voltage electrical and mechanical works. The sector is also focused on expanding training for national staff through specialized courses to improve expertise and reduce reliance on private companies. Additionally, it is involved in modernizing workshops, implementing security and safety standards, and adhering to environmental protection regulations for waste disposal.

A key aspect of the sector’s role is its contribution to digital transformation. This includes establishing an integrated service system for employees and visitors with special needs, incorporating interactive screens, Braille services, and sign language support. The sector has also developed a digital inspection system for meters and devices and uses barcodes to handle maintenance requests efficiently.

Regarding Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and the shift towards clean energy, Al-Enezi reported on three major projects involving photovoltaic cells. These projects include tenders for the installation of photovoltaic cells on car shades and buildings in various locations, with a combined production capacity of 19.5 megawatts. The sector has approved 33 projects for generating electrical energy with a total capacity of 8.11 megawatts and 121 electric chargers for various entities.

The sector supports the ministry’s departments by preparing designs for new buildings, managing construction tenders, and overseeing project implementation. It also manufactures spare parts for mechanical maintenance, examines and maintains groundwater pumps, and provides logistical support with heavy equipment.

Looking ahead, Al-Enezi confirmed that an economic feasibility study is underway to establish a factory for photovoltaic panels in Subhan. This initiative aims to meet the ministry’s needs and contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals by achieving self-sufficiency in panel production, supporting small and medium enterprises, and offering maintenance and modernization services for existing systems.
