WASHINGTON, March 7, (Agencies): Tragedy struck a Louisiana high school community as 18-year-old Jaylin Joiner, a student at Carencro High School, was fatally shot while disembarking from his school bus last week, according to authorities.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting report around 3 pm on Friday, March 1. Upon arrival, they discovered Jaylin with a gunshot wound. The victim was swiftly transported to a hospital with severe injuries, but tragically succumbed to them later.

In connection with the shooting, 19-year-old Malikai Doucet was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Doucet's bond was set at $35,000, with authorities hinting at the possibility of more arrests while keeping the motive undisclosed. As of now, it remains unclear whether Doucet has secured legal representation or entered a plea.

To assist Jaylin's grieving family with funeral expenses and related financial burdens, his grandmother, Thea Boudreaux, established a GoFundMe campaign. On the fundraising page, Boudreaux lamented the senseless act of violence that claimed Jaylin's life, describing him as a young man with a promising future who dedicated himself to education, work, and supporting his siblings. The community now rallies behind the grieving family in their time of devastating loss.
