CAIRO, Egypt, Oct 18, (Agencies): The Cairo International Film Festival’s 45th edition has been canceled due to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The organizers initially stated it was postponed, but it has, in fact, been canceled.
The organizers of the festival made an announcement via Instagram on Wednesday. Their statement read, “Dr. Neven El-Kelany, the Minister of Culture, has decided to postpone the 45th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival, originally scheduled for November 15 to 24. A new date for the festival will be determined at a later time.”
However, according to Variety, the Cairo Fest’s press office later clarified that the postponement effectively means the event has been canceled.
In a similar vein, the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt was also rescheduled. The festival released a statement explaining that it will now be held from October 27 to November 2, instead of its initially planned dates of October 13 to 20.
Furthermore, Palestinian Chilean singer Elyanna, who was slated to perform at the festival, expressed her decision not to perform “at this time” even before the festival’s postponement. She shared on Instagram, “It was an honor to be invited… however, I will not be participating right now.”
