KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10:  The Kuwaiti swimming team secured four medals in various categories on the inaugural day of the Second Arab Championship for Sunni Ages, which kicked off today in Doha, Qatar. The event, hosted at the Spire Aquariums Complex, witnessed broad Arab participation and is scheduled to unfold over six days.

Faisal Abu Al-Hassan, the head of the Kuwaiti national team delegation and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Water Sports Federation, shared with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Hassan Al-Sailik, the champion swimmer, clinched the gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly race for the (13-14 years) category, securing the top position in the competition. Abu Al-Hassan further revealed that swimmer Hamad Al-Ghaith secured a silver medal by claiming the second spot in the 200-meter freestyle race within the same age category. Additionally, swimmer Saud Al-Anazi earned a bronze medal by finishing third in the 50-meter butterfly race for men in the same age group.

The Kuwaiti national team, consisting of Al-Sailik, Al-Ghaith, Al-Anazi, and their teammate Hassan Rajab, also achieved bronze in the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay race. Abu Al-Hassan commended the distinguished performance of the Kuwaiti champions on the tournament's opening day, highlighting their technical excellence. He expressed confidence that the Kuwaiti swimmers, motivated by their initial success, would strive for more victories in the upcoming days of the championship. Additionally, he praised the exceptional organization of the tournament by the Qatari organizing committee.
