Tens of thousands of worshippers gather in mosques to observe Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power.
KUWAIT CITY, March 29: The Grand Mosque witnessed the arrival of thousands of worshipers to perform the night prayer on the 29th night of Ramadan, seeking the Night of Power (Decree). Majid Al-Enezi led the worshipers in the first four rak’ahs of the Qiyam prayer, while Bader Al-Ali led the second four rak’ahs. The Grand Mosque administration announced that the number of worshipers who performed the Qiyam prayer on the 29th night of Ramadan reached 9,330 -- 6,100 men and 3,230 women. In a spiritual speech delivered between the rak’ahs, Sheikh Dr. Nawaf Al-Suraihi stressed the importance of thanking Almighty Allah for His blessings and even for performing acts of worship. “When a Muslim can pray, fast and perform other acts of worship; he is truly blessed and deserving of praise and gratitude,” he pointed out.
Gratitude
He explained that gratitude is not only expressed verbally, but also in the heart and limbs, by appreciating the blessing and doing what pleases Allah. He said Almighty Allah praised His Prophet Noah, peace be upon him, by saying, “Indeed, he was a grateful servant.” He added that “gratitude is one of the greatest attributes of believers. It is the reason for increasing blessings and preventing their disappearance. A grateful servant views everything Allah bestowed upon him, no matter how small, with gratitude; and is certain that every blessing requires greater obedience and closeness to Allah.” He asserted that among the greatest blessings for which gratitude is due are security and safety, as they are the foundations of stability and reassurance in human life. He quoted the Hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, “whoever among you wakes up secure in his home, healthy in his body and has his daily sustenance; it is as if the whole world has been given to him. Whoever has security, health and provisions already attained the great good that deserves praise.” He said gratitude for blessings is not limited to words, as it entails using them wisely in obedience to Allah. “Part of gratitude for the blessing of money is to spend it on charitable causes, part of gratitude for the blessing of health is to invest it in good deeds, and part of gratitude for the blessing of security is to protect one’s homeland and society and not to corrupt them in any way,” he added. He called for contemplation of the blessings that surround the people daily and not to neglect Allah’s bounty. He asked “how many people have been deprived of what we enjoy and how many have lost a blessing they were unaware of?” He urged everyone to repeat Allah’s words: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you”; and to approach life with gratitude that brings more goodness and blessings.
