KUWAIT CITY: The head of the Volunteer Committee for the Khaleeji Zain 26 (Arabian Gulf Cup), Abdullah Salem Al-Adwani, has announced that the number of volunteers already registered for the tournament next month has reached 3,300 male and female citizens and residents.

Kuwait is preparing to host one of football’s biggest biennial football tournaments from December 21 to January 3 and is looking to recruit up to 5,000 volunteers to ensure that it is a resounding success.

The tournament features the eight Arabian Gulf national teams with the volunteers set to play a key role in its successful organization, and more volunteers are being encouraged to register before the closing date of December 5.

Mr. Al-Adwani said that interviews had been conducted with each of the volunteers who had registered to date, with their ages ranging from 16-60 years, and he added that many already have experience volunteering at major events hosted previously in Kuwait, including the last time the tournament was held here in 2017/18.

From the gate to the seat

“The important role of the volunteers can’t be understated as they will have a direct impact on the success of the tournament,” said Mr Al-Adwani.“They will provide support for every spectator from the moment they arrive at the first gates at the stadium to present their ticket,to the end when they find their seat. Many vital roles will be undertaken by our volunteers.”

Mr. Al-Adwani added that training will be conducted for the volunteers in both theoretical and practical sessions to enable them to be prepared to share this unique tournament experience with the fans.
