Travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar (right) and Kumbhe waterfall

INDIA, July 20: A tragic incident occurred on July 16, when Aanvi Kamdar, a 27-year-old accountant and travel influencer, fell to her death while recording an Instagram Live at Kumbhe waterfall, located less than 100 miles from Mumbai, India. Kamdar, who was sightseeing with seven friends, slipped and fell 300 feet into the valley below.

Rescue efforts were immediately launched, but Kamdar initially could not be spotted due to the hard, slippery terrain. Multiple rescue crews worked tirelessly for six hours to retrieve her from the gorge. According to The Economic Times, a rescuer explained, "She fell on the hard, slippery patch of rocks around 300 feet into the valley and couldn't be spotted initially."

The challenging rescue operation involved using a stretcher attached to rappelling ropes. "Six rescuers climbed down the hill, while another 50 assisted atop the hillock," the rescuer detailed. Despite heavy rain and Kamdar's injuries, rescuers managed to reach her, but the extraction process was complex, utilizing a vertical pulley.

Kamdar was responsive when authorities first reached her and during her extrication. She was transported to Mangaon Taluka Government Hospital and placed on a ventilator, but she sadly passed away on Tuesday afternoon.

Kamdar, known to her nearly 300,000 Instagram followers as @theglocaljournal, was reportedly recording an Instagram Live at the time of the accident. Her final post made the day before her death, highlighted the top five locations to visit during India's rainy season.

This tragic event adds to a growing list of accidents involving influencers or tourists distracted while sightseeing. Recently, a couple in India had to jump 90 feet from a train trestle to avoid an oncoming train while taking photographs. Additionally, a married pair of travel influencers drowned after falling from a mountain in Japan.
