Two-weeks extension to upload ‘post-12’ degree

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 3: The Ministry of Information has extended the deadline for its employees to upload post-secondary academic certificates issued from Jan 1, 2000 till date for two weeks from the previous deadline of Sept 30. The newspaper obtained a copy of the circular, in which the ministry emphasized that this extension aims to facilitate the procedures for employees -- citizens and expatriates --regarding the examination of academic certificates.

The circular outlines the steps for uploading certificates as follows:

The employees should access the ministry’s official website, particularly the page dedicated for certificate examination.

They must authenticate their identity through the Kuwait Mobile ID application.

They should upload a photocopy of their academic qualification, which must be issued only by government educational institutions in Kuwait.

For qualifications obtained outside Kuwait, they should upload their academic credentials along with the equivalency certificate issued by the Ministry of Higher Education. The ministry warned that employees, who fail to submit the required documents within the new deadline, will bear full responsibility for any measure that will be taken by the authorities in charge of the qualification process.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has approved an initiative from the University of California, Berkeley aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Kuwait’s education and training mechanisms, reports local Arabic daily Al-Rai. This initiative includes the establishment of AI laboratories in secondary schools across the country.

Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al- Zain Al-Sabah met with the faculty members and coordinators of Berkeley’s AI program, during which they discussed the initiative. At the meeting; acting General Technical Supervisor for Computers Mona Salem presented a report on the ministry’s commitment to develop the youths’ skills in this vital field. The ministry affirmed full support for the university’s goals while emphasizing the importance of integrating AI in education to equip students with essential skills for a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The proposed programs will cover foundational AI concepts, creativity enhancement through AI, using AI as an educational tool, and fostering research and innovation in the field; thereby, allowing students to benefit from the university’s expertise. Salem asserted that collaboration with the university will greatly benefit the students and improve the overall educational system in Kuwait.

She proposed forming a joint working group with representatives from both the ministry and the university as members in order to lay down a detailed implementation plan. This group will assess student needs and allocate necessary resources; including infrastructure, technology and funding, as well as ensure ongoing evaluation of the programs to enhance their effectiveness.
