KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis says 2024 has been a special year for both the United Kingdom and Kuwait, as the governments of the two countries jointly celebrated 125 years of official diplomatic relations. In a press statement, she revealed that 95,381 electronic travel permits had been issued to Kuwaiti citizens since February 2024. Ambassador Lewis affirmed that cooperation in trade, investment, defense, and security has long been the foundation of the strong relationship between the two countries.
She said, “What truly binds us is the special bond between our peoples.” Ambassador Lewis explained that the first major announcement of the year was the launch of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system in February, which made short trips to the United Kingdom easier and more fl exible for Kuwaiti citizens. The demand for the system’s services was high, with 47,142 permits issued to Kuwaitis from July to September, bringing the total to 95,381 permits since the launch of ETA.
