KUWAIT CITY, Oct 15, (Agencies): The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has honored Dr. Majed Al-Azmi, the head of Kuwaiti Zakat House, by bestowing upon him the title of UNHCR Patron. This recognition is in acknowledgment of Zakat House's significant contributions to assisting refugees, made possible through their partnership with the UNHCR.

Nesreen Rubaian, the UNHCR representative in the country, made this announcement during a press conference. She highlighted the remarkable support provided by Zakat House, which has benefited over 50,000 displaced individuals. This support was extended through rapid responses to urgent cases and assistance for UNHCR projects in Bangladesh, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Mauritania.

The title of UNHCR Patron is an honorary designation granted to individuals who play a crucial role in raising awareness about the challenges of forced displacement, rallying support, and participating in the activities of the commission.

Dr. Al-Azmi expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian partnership between Zakat House and UNHCR. He emphasized the significance of this collaboration in facilitating the exchange of expertise, achieving common goals, and integrating efforts to better serve the needs of refugees.

Khaled Khalifah, the UNHCR representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), congratulated Dr. Al-Azmi and underscored the vital role that Islamic charitable organizations play in meeting the demands and humanitarian needs of forcibly displaced individuals.
