KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6:  Kuwait has earned the top spot in the Arab and Middle Eastern regions for its remarkable achievements in combatting acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), with an impressive 94 percent success rate, as reported by the United Nations. Dr. Al-Munther Al-Hasawi, the Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary and Chief of the permanent National Committee for AIDS, made this announcement during the commencement of the annual conference on AIDS and reproductive illnesses.

Dr. Al-Hasawi elaborated on Kuwait's accomplishment of the 90/90/90 indicator, signifying that 90 percent of infected individuals are aware of their condition, 90 percent of diagnosed patients are receiving treatment, and 90 percent of those undergoing treatment have an undetectable viral load. He went on to express that Kuwait is now taking determined steps towards attaining the 95/95/95 objective by 2035, with expectations of reaching these goals even sooner. He emphasized that these aren't just numbers on paper but are genuine targets backed by scientific research.

Dr. Al-Hasawi emphasized the significant global impact of achieving these objectives by 2030. It could result in a substantial decrease in the number of new infections and deaths, potentially reducing new infections by 30 million, including seven million children, and preventing 21 million deaths related to the disease. This would carry tangible financial and economic implications for the world.

Additionally, Kuwait is actively pursuing the fourth 90 indicator, focusing on the quality of life, as stated by Dr. Al-Hasawi.

Dr. Jamal Al-Duaij, Director of Al-Jahra Health District and Director of Infectious Diseases Hospital, praised the efforts made to organize the conference, highlighting the dedication of medical teams in safeguarding citizens' health, particularly in the realm of venereal diseases, including AIDS. He pointed out that Kuwait is up-to-date with cutting-edge medical examinations in this field, with diagnostic methods that provide results in as little as 15 minutes.

The President of the Conference and Head of the Infectious Diseases Department, Dr. Osama Al-Baksami, underscored the rapid advancements in treating and diagnosing AIDS and venereal diseases, supported by modern technologies and the latest scientific and medical methods. The conference features scientific sessions that showcase the latest developments in AIDS and venereal diseases and interactive dialogues to raise awareness and prevent the spread of these diseases.
