Urgent call to amend event tent regulations amid venue shortage
One of the temporary event tents in Kuwait. Kuwait Municipality has launched a campaign for removal of temporary event tents after expiry of the deadline.

KUWAIT CITY, March 17: A member of the Municipal Council has called on the municipality's executive body to urgently amend the bylaws governing event tents and approve proposed locations for them, replacing those whose owners have been instructed to cease operations. This decision has led to the postponement of numerous events due to a lack of alternative venues.

The member expressed disappointment over the municipality's decision to remove event tents without providing immediate and suitable alternatives for citizens planning various events and weddings. The decision was described as poorly thought out, creating a significant crisis for citizens, particularly with the wedding and event season approaching after the holy month of Ramadan. What should have been a time of joy and celebration has now been overshadowed by this issue.

The importance of organizing public spaces and enforcing regulations and laws was emphasized, alongside the need to consider citizens' needs and offer alternative solutions before making such decisions.

The member hopes that the executive body will quickly identify suitable locations and amend the bylaws to present them to the Municipal Council for approval. The Council is working in collaboration with the relevant authorities to find sustainable solutions to provide appropriate venues for events, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, health, and environmental standards.

It was also stressed that municipal decisions should be carefully considered and based on scientific and societal foundations, always prioritizing the interests and well-being of citizens.
