Kuwait's Municipal Council pushes for rapid development of workers’ housing sites.

KUWAIT CITY, July 7: Several Municipal Council members have confirmed that the Council has taken steps to address the issue of workers' cities by allocating various sites and handing them over to relevant government agencies.

The members told Al Rai that the Council is prepared to hold an emergency meeting to discuss this issue and find appropriate solutions, provided that the relevant authorities implement the proposals for establishing these cities. Vice Chairman Khaled Mufleh Al-Mutairi emphasized the Council's commitment to solving the workers' housing problem by allocating numerous suitable sites for workers' cities and housing.

Al-Mutairi urged the relevant government agencies to expedite the completion of the proposed workers' cities, as they would significantly help address the housing issues in investment and bachelors’ housing areas. He warned that without implementing the committee-recommended solutions, areas like Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh could become high-risk zones, similar to the Mangaf fire incident.

Council member Fahd Al-Abduljader stated that the Council is committed to taking any necessary action to resolve the workers' housing issue, even if it requires an emergency meeting. He noted that the problem lies in the implementation of regulations and laws, not the regulations themselves.

Member Walid Al-Dagher explained that the Council's role is to allocate land for workers' housing, which it has already done, handing over several sites to the appropriate authorities.

Fahad Al-Khenin emphasized the need for the Council to address the issue of workers' cities and ensure they meet all health and living requirements. This would help create a model that reflects positively on Kuwait, avoiding the development of slums that damage the country's image.

Abdullah Al-Anzi highlighted the Council's role in reviewing privatization requests for integrated workers' cities, ensuring that all conditions serving humanity are met. He pointed out that developing workers' cities would reduce pressure on investment and commercial housing, some of which currently violate the laws.

The Municipal Council continues to work on long-term solutions to improve the living conditions of workers in Kuwait, aiming to create sustainable and well-regulated housing environments.
