ABU DHABI, Oct 19: The US Embassy in the United Arab Emirates has issued a security alert urging Americans across the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance amid a complex and evolving security environment, warning of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.
The alert cited attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilian airports and other critical infrastructure that reportedly caused civilian casualties and severe disruptions to travel.
“The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area,” the embassy warned.
The embassy urged Americans travelling to or from the Middle East to closely monitor airport operations and airline updates, while making contingency plans in advance to prepare for possible changes to their travel arrangements.
It also warned that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target US interests beyond the immediate conflict zone, including American businesses and other institutions overseas.
“Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other US interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including US businesses and other institutions,” the statement said.
The warning underscores concerns that regional hostilities could spread beyond their current areas of confrontation, potentially affecting civilian infrastructure, international aviation and the safety of Americans and US-linked institutions abroad.
The embassy advised Americans to remain alert and prepared for rapidly changing security conditions, particularly when planning or undertaking travel across the region.
