WASHINGTON, Dec 12: The US Department of Defense announced that the State Department has approved a $300 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Kuwait, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The deal encompasses maintenance, repair, support services and military equipment aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of Kuwait’s armed forces. The primary contractors for this agreement include BAE Systems, Leonardo DRS, L3 Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman and RTX Corporation.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the purchase includes joint and specialized tools, material handling equipment, spare parts, hydraulic systems and fuel pumps. The agreement also supports the operation and maintenance of facilities and the overhaul of AGT1500 engines as part of the Integrated Engine Overhaul Program. Kuwait’s armed forces will use the support to maintain various military vehicles, including M1A2 and M1A2K Abrams main battle tanks; M88A1 and M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles; M577A2 and M577A3 command transporters and the M113A1, M113A2 and M113A3 armored personnel carriers. The Gulf Defense Security Agency emphasized that the sale would not affect US defense readiness nor significantly alter the military balance in the Middle East. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s status as a major non-NATO ally
