KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: The US Ambassador to Kuwait Alina Romanowski in reply to a question told the Al- Seyassah newspaper the strategic relationship between Kuwait and the United States which extends over more than 30 years will continue and that the bilateral relations will also continue to strengthen in support of the safety and security of the region and the world.

Alina Romanowski

This came following the meetings of the basic working groups for the fourth round of the strategic dialogue between Kuwait and the United States through audio-visual communication technology, despite the political scene in the two countries, and the Kuwait National Assembly elections just around the corner and the results of the American presidential elections and the consequences thereof in the White House and the fear of a new foreign policy.

Regarding the continuation of US support in the current conditions for Kuwaiti mediation to resolve the Gulf crisis, Romanowski said, “Resolving this Gulf dispute is a common priority between our two countries, and the unity of the Gulf is an important element for the security of the region, and the United States appreciates Kuwait’s commitment to resolving the dispute under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad.”

Dialogue
About the activities of the fourth Kuwaiti-American strategic dialogue meetings, a statement spoke of the convening, for the first time, of a hypothetical bilateral working group in the fields of political cooperation, development and human rights.

The American side was chaired by the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale, while the Kuwaiti side was chaired by the Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, AbdulWahab Al-Badr, with the US Ambassador to Kuwait, Alina Romanowski also present. Ambassador Romanowski said, “The United States and the State of Kuwait are strong partners in dealing with the most pressing international issues. Today we were able to highlight America’s support for Kuwait’s continuing efforts to resolve the Gulf dispute that only serves the interests of our common opponents such as the Iranian regime. We have also discussed ways of cooperation in empowering Kuwait and helping Iraq to become more stable and prosperous.”

She added, “The United States and the State of Kuwait have cooperated for decades to promote peace and stability in the Gulf region,” noting that today’s discussions also touched on the situation in Lebanon and Syria, as well as China’s role in the region and cooperation between the United States and the State of Kuwait. The United States commended the efforts made by the State of Kuwait with regard to freedom of religion, the progress it had made on women’s issues and its endeavors in dealing with human trafficking issues.
