RIYADH, Oct 12: The US Mission in Saudi Arabia has warned of additional attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a targeted attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on October 11, cautioning US citizens about potential flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.

In a security alert issued Sunday, the US Mission advised travelers to exercise extreme caution when using all major airports across Saudi Arabia and recommended checking flight departure status directly with airlines and airports.

The mission said US government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization to use King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as well as airports in Jeddah and Dammam.

It also suggested that private cars, trains and buses could provide alternatives to air travel, advising travelers to confirm availability and schedules directly with transportation providers.

The alert listed Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), SAT Transportation (SAT) and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) as transportation resources.

The US Mission further stated that American government employees are prohibited from traveling within 20 miles of Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen due to safety risks. Special authorization is also required for travel to Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, as well as the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.

The mission said regular and emergency consular services remain available to US citizens in Saudi Arabia.
