Vietnamese Ambassador praises Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, June 10: The Vietnamese Ambassador to Kuwait Ngo Taon Thang praised the pivotal role that Kuwait plays in the region, affirming that it enjoys distinguished, balanced and wise diplomacy, and is considered one of the most important factors of stability in the region, reports Al-Qabas daily.

On the sidelines of a luncheon held in honor of a number of local media representatives to taste Vietnamese food, Ambassador Thang praised the pioneering humanitarian role that Kuwait plays in alleviating the pain of victims of disasters around the world.

He revealed that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has funded 18 projects in his country since 1979, each project costing from KD 5 million to KD 6 million.

Ambassador Thang described the Vietnamese-Kuwaiti relations as excellent and historical.

He explained that the diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries began in 1976, and lasted over a period of 47 years. They are characterized by strength and durability, and develop year after year at all levels and various fields of cooperation.

The total volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to USD 5.5 billion, with Vietnam importing USD 5 billion worth of Kuwaiti oil, while the Vietnamese exports to Kuwait amount to about USD 500 million.

He indicated that the next round of political dialogue between the two countries will be held in Kuwait before the end of this year, adding that the high-level mutual visits have contributed significantly to supporting and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Thang recalled the visit of the Vietnamese president to Kuwait in 1995, and the exchange of visits by the prime ministers of the two countries in 2007 and 2009. Finally in 2016, the Kuwaiti Prime Minister visited Vietnam, during which many agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed. The volume of Kuwaiti government investments in his country amounted to about USD 3 billion, while the investments of the Kuwaiti private sector amounted to about USD 200 million.

The Vietnamese ambassador praised the atmosphere of the Kuwaiti parliamentary elections that took place on Tuesday, describing them as “a democratic wedding”.

He highlighted the uniqueness of the diwaniya culture, which is one of the most prominent traditions of Kuwaiti society.

Ambassador Thang revealed that the embassy is in the process of organizing a week of the Vietnamese lychee fruit, and promoting its many health benefits, starting next week at the Avenues Mall.
