KUWAIT CITY, July 24, (KUNA): Consumption of water in Kuwait hit a record on July 14, with 475 million imperial gallons, a rise of five million gallons more than the same period in 2016, said the Ministry of Electricity and Water. The ministry’s Undersecretary for the Operation and Maintenance Sector Khalifa Al-Furij, made the statement on the sidelines of a fair on the experimental project for rationalization of water in houses, being implemented by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) in cooperation with the ministry.Al-Furij noted that the strategic stocks of water are “assuring”, with about 3.9 billion imperial gallons, 97 percent of the total storage capacity. The rationalization project, for which the KFAS has allocated KD 1.45 million ($4.7 million), includes fixing water filters in 5,000 houses in six residential areas identified by a ministry’s technical committee, he noted.Similar fairs will be organized in the cooperative societies in these areas, for people to apply for water filters. Al-Furij stressed the ministry’s keenness on implementing such vital development projects to rationalize the consumption of water, and power in general.
